From April 14 to 16, Belmond Cap Juluca hosted the first global .ai Domain Registrar Summit. Forty-eight registrars attended. Namecheap. GoDaddy. Porkbun. Squarespace. The people who control how the world registers .ai domains came to this island — population 18,000, no traffic lights, thirty-three beaches — and held a summit.

I live here. I was not in the room. But I watched the cars go past on the road to Maundays Bay, and I thought: the world is finally paying attention to something residents have understood for years.

“We are going to bring the world to Anguilla and Anguilla to the world.”

— FADI CHEHADÉ, PRESIDENT · IDENTITY DIGITAL

Fadi Chehadé said this before the turquoise waters of Maundays Bay. It is a good line. But the more interesting version of that sentence is the one nobody said out loud: Anguilla has been the world’s .ai registry since 1995. The world is only now catching up.

In 1995, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority allocated the country code .ai to Anguilla. It was bureaucratic. Nobody predicted that thirty years later, artificial intelligence would become the defining technology of the century — and that every serious AI company on the planet would want a .ai address.

The numbers are real. In 2023, the Government of Anguilla collected over $32 million from .ai domain registrations. That figure now represents close to 50% of the island’s national budget. Anguilla is no longer just a Caribbean tax haven. It is the registry of the AI era.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

Registering and managing .ai assets from within Anguilla is not just symbolic. It places your intellectual property inside the jurisdiction that controls the registry. It provides a legal and strategic framework that no offshore structure from the outside can replicate. You are not just buying a domain. You are planting a flag in the territory that owns the infrastructure.

The summit confirmed the momentum. But momentum is not strategy. Knowing that GoDaddy sent a delegation to Cap Juluca does not tell you how to open a bank account here, how to structure your residency, or how Bitcoin actually moves on this island.

That is what the guide covers.
